The sailors started the season Tuesday night on the road at Grand Rapids Christian. A rivalry game is an exciting way to start. The JV sailors started the season in excellent fashion with a convincing 57-46 win against the Eagles. As expected, the scoring early started slow as both teams struggled to score early. The sailors took a slim 9-8 lead after the first quarter. The second quarter is when the sailors made their move. Outscoring the eagles 18-7 in the frame, they pushed the pace and closed the half with a well executed play for a big three by Joe Maas, giving the sailors a 27-15 halftime lead. The momentum even carried into the 3rd quarter as the Sailors built an 18 pt lead midway through the frame. The Eagles battled valiantly and continued to chip away at the sailors lead. Cutting the deficit to 45-39 midway through the 4th, Tyler Krosschell responded with a tough finish in traffic and CJ Semple and Ethan Smith hit big three's to stretch the lead back to 12. Ultimately the Sailors held on for the 57-46 win. In a true team effort, the sailors were led in scoring by Kolin Younce with 16 points, and freshman Tyler Krosschell and CJ Semple joined in double digits with 14 & 11 respectively. Sailors are back in action at home Friday night, 5:30pm, against Holland Christian.
